January EMT-B Original and Refresher Classes

Faxton-St. Luke’s EMS Education is offering two EMT-B Basic Original and Refresher Classes that are starting in January.

The Midstate Training Center will be the location of an EMT-B Original and Refresher. This class will run Sundays from 8:30am-3:30pm, starting January 14th. Melissa Lockwood will be the instructor.

HCCC will be holding a EMT-B class every Tuesday and Thursday from 8am-12:30pm, starting January 23rd. Erik Merrell will be the instructor.

Happy Thanksgiving

As 2017 starts to come to end, we would just like to take a minute to thank all of the EMS community for all that you have done, again this year. For the sacrifices you have made in order to help others. We would also like to thank your families and friend for allowing you to have the time to give. Also, a special thank you for those of you who will be spending your Thanksgiving on call, on duty or on shift.

Holiday Hours

The Midstate EMS Offices will be closed for Thanksgiving Thursday, November 23th and Friday, November 24th. We will re-open at 8am on Monday, November 27th.

Meth and Clandestine Lab Awareness

Date:       Monday, November 20, 2017

Place:      Maynard FD – 9500 Maynard Drive Marcy, NY

Time:       6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

This FREE training seminar will include the following topics:

  • Methamphetamine: Recognition, abuse, effects and trends
  • Clandestine drug labs: Recognition, dangers, production methods and “first responder” procedures
  • Investigation and prosecution of clan lab cases
  • Overview of recently-enacted state and federal laws
  • Dealing with drug-endangered children found at clan lab sites
  • Clan lab site contamination and remediation issues
  • “Who to call” for clan lab entry, assessment and processing

ANY law enforcement, emergency medical services, fire departments, social services or prosecution professional within Oneida/Herkimer/Madison Counties can attend this seminar, which will be conducted by the NYS Police (NYSP).  EMTs will be given credit for 2 hours CME.

IV Fluid Shortage

Due to increased demand, limited manufacturers, regualtory issues and recent national disasters, there is a shortage of IV fluids in the US.  This shortage is expected to last for several months, making conservation necessary.  Midstate ALS Agencies are encouraged to monitor inventories and use IV bags only when fluid is indicated.
