EMS Tree of Life 
May 13, 2008
Kuyahoora Valley Ambulance Corps will be dedicating an EMS Tree of Life at the Poland Village Green on Wednesday, May 21st at 5:00PM. Residents, all former and current members of KVAC and area EMS providers are invited to attend the ceremony which will be dedicated to all EMS providers past, present and future who provide medical assistance to residents and visitors to the Kuyahoora Valley.

This ceremony is one activity KVAC is conducting as part of National EMS Week, May 18-24. The National EMS Tree of Life in Roanoke, Virginia is a memorial to all EMS providers who have died in the line of duty. Each name is placed on a leaf of the tree. The tree dedicated by KVAC will be a living red-bud tree chosen for its beauty and distinct growth pattern. In addition to the tree dedication, KVAC is providing blood pressure and blood sugar screenings for the general public at area businesses during the week.

The class will be held from 8:00AM to 5:00PM on June 9, 10 & 11 at the New York State Preparedness Training Center located at 5900 Airport Boulevard in Oriskany. EMS Response to Taser Incidents 
March 31, 2008
The Midstate REMAC has issued a policy regarding EMS responses to patients that have been exposed to a conducted energy device "taser". This policy includes 1. Confirm scene safety 2. Assess for medical conditions and treat according to NYS BLS and Midstate ALS protocols. 3. Do not remove barbs embedded in the patient. 4. All Patients must be transported to an ED for evaluation by a Physician.

Basic ECG and 12 Lead Classes

Faxton-St. Luke's EMS Education will be hosting a series of Rhythm Interpretation (Basic ECG) and 12 Lead classes. Jason Dardano, AEMT-P from WAVES Ambulance in Syracuse will be the instructor for these sessions. The dates and times are as follows: (1) Basic ECG Interpretation, Wednesday, March 26, 6:00PM - 10:00PM, (2) 12 Lead Interpretation, Saturday, April 26, 9:00AM - 4:00PM (3) Basic ECG Interpretation, Wednesday, May 21, 6:00PM - 10:00PM. A $10.00 Registration Fee will be charged and pre-registration is required by calling 315-624-4508. Certificates will be issued for these programs.
